SAT MATH QUESTIONS : PRACTICE SET

In the New SAT format introduced since March 2005, the Math section is a 70-minutes section. It has three tests.

  • Two 25-minute test sections
  • One 20-minute test section


The Math section comprises a total of 54 questions divided as

  • 44 Multiple Choice Questions and
  • 10 Student produced response (grid-ins)

  1. Number and Operations Review
    1. Number Properties
      Includes properties of integers, number lines, squares and square roots, fractions and rational numbers, elementary number theory including factors, multiples, remainders and prime numbers.

    2. Ratio Proportion, Percents & Word Problems
      Simple and compound ratio, percents, fractions. The SAT has arithmetic word problems - many of which may not require writing algebraic equations.

    3. Sequences
      Sequence of odd numbers, even numbers, arithmetic sequence, sum of terms in a sequence, average of certain terms in a sequence, value of a specific term in a sequence.

    4. Sets & Logical Reasoning
      Union, intersection of sets. Union of two and three sets. Intersection of two and three sets.

    5. Counting Methods : Permutation & Combination
      Number of ways to selecting or arranging members of groups. Independent events. Understanding the difference between Permutation and Combination and applying it to situations.

  2. Algebra and Functions Review
    1. Operations on Algebraic Expressions
      Applying basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication etc., to algebraic expressions. Factoring, exponents.

      Working for unsolvable equations. Solving for one variable in terms of another. Solving equations involving radical expressions.

      Translating word problems into mathematical relationships. Inequalities, system of inequalities, rational equations and inequalities.

      Function notation and evaluation. Domain and range of a function. Linear functions : their equations and graphs.

  3. Geometry and Measurement Review
    1. Angles, Polygons and Circles
      Points and lines, angles in the plane, properties of polygons - triangles, quadrilaterals and parallelograms, pentagons and hexagons; circles – area and circumference, arcs, tangents etc.

    2. Solid Geometry
      Surface area and volume of solids such as cubes, cuboids, prisms and cylinders, cone, pyramids, and spheres.

  4. Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability Review

      Data will be presented in one of the following formats : Pie charts, line graphs, bar graphs, and pictographs.
